Yet some have decided to reverse this trend and give their territory a second chance. Encouraged by their elders and trained in educational gardens, young women and men have chosen to build their future on the land.
Long neglected and used only for subsistence crops such as cassava and yams, the land is now being rediscovered for market gardening – tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, and more. Demand is immense because here in Wallis and Futuna, everything is imported. Jordan, Mamalu, and Sefo understood this well, having decided to one day become self-employed. Three parallel destinies, three young people who will do everything to bring their projects to fruition.
