I didn't realize this game was even close to be somewhat remembered enough to make a video like this about it. I remember playing it when I was 7, I distinctly remember that the bomber in question was absolutely not silent.

That was probably the coolest delivery of "I regret nothing" ive heard to be honest

46:35 So Jutah didnt know his commanding officer seven years ago and apparently followed the order of some random voice coming through his speakers? 10/10 storytelling

For the chess part, if you use 8 bombs to kill the enemies it shortens the stage considerably, the enemies will make a different sound when they explode and for Benoit himself I just place the bombs in the ground and wait for him to walk through, made it so much easier and I was so happy the first time I beat this.
Awesome game I still replay every once in a while when the emulation bug bites me.

I absolute adore that the tutorial has the same kind of voice I heard in basically every instruction video I watched when I was in the Marines. It's perfect.

You got to love '90s anime villains in their melodramatic delivery of everything lol.

27 videos later of "was it good"  and im amazed Josh didnt go insane from witnessing the pure art of those games

I remember buying this game from a flea market as a kid because of the box cover and the cool sounding name. I didn't even have a playstation.

This game was so friggin fun back in the day.

Benoit's voice was driving me crazy because it sounded so familiar, until it finally hit me that it's Kenshin.

I fondly remember getting my original PlayStation back in the Philippines in 1999. The country also had a pirated games market where you can get dirt cheap copies of any game of any localization. Needless to say, my parents got me a thirty-plus game collection, and Silent Bomber was part of it, specifically the original Japanese version.

The graphical and gameplay design absolutely dazzled me at the time when I saw my dad messing around with the game for a bit. I tried it out for myself eventually, and oh what fun it was working through the Hiragana and Katakana.

As you can tell, I love this game and have played it to death.

With that said, I’d like to correct some info in this video and add a few of my own.

In the Japanese version, you cannot skip the tutorial at all, whereas you can in the North American version.

Also in the Japanese version, you are taken directly to the pause menu when you…well, pause the game. No need to press Start and THEN Select.

There’s a pretty well-hidden mechanic in the game that is somewhat hinted at, which is the score multiplier. Basically, amassing a kill streak will result in the score being multiplied ranging from x2 all the way to x10. Each enemy yielded different score amounts, with the mission objectives yielding the most, so it was ideal to amass the multiplier from smaller foes before going after the big fish. The kill streak ends if Jutah takes a hit or after a three-second period.

Speaking of scoring, the ranking system factors in speed, remaining health and kill streaks. If you’re fast, have taken no damage and have blown up plenty of hostiles, you’re guaranteed the highest rank. And the highest rank is actually S, not A. And each rank is separated by increments of 50000 points. For each increment you hit on your total, you go up a rank. So the challenge becomes reaching an S Rank in every mission, which is far from easy.

Of course, poor performance, including using a Continue after dying in a mission, will reduce your total score and thus your rank.

The incentive for reaching high ranks in every mission is unlocking Benoit and the Cat Tank in the 1v1 mode. You get Benoit for Straight A’s and the Tank for Straight S’s.

Anyway, I’m so happy that Silent Bomber is being remembered in 2023, and with a hefty 200k views to boot. This was a nice watch. 😊

I loved this game growing up my older cousin borrowed it to me and he never got it back, he passed away two years ago but he was the greatest. R.I.P ❤

Yeah, I remembered having so much fun with this game. Even recognized the Silent Bomber reference in the .hack games. Beating this game was probably one of my biggest gaming achievements as a kid, because I figured out that in the final boss fight against Benoit, the arena actually has no borders, so I just infinitely ran down the whole fight and jumped over whatever Benoit did, only stopping to plant a bomb on him, kind of like what Josh did.

Kudos to Josh for actually having played the game, too!

There are a lot of classic and retro games that I would like to revisit that I either don’t have the time, or the patience, to play in 2023.  This series is probably more enjoyable to me than playing some of these games again.   First YT channel I’ve ever actually waited for a new episode of.

Along with megaman x4, ff8, tekken 3, re2 and silent hill, silent bomber was one of the badass games that my much older brother had in our collection. I was lucky to have played this as a kid

I used to play this demo with my friends all the time. Since our english was bad when we were kids, we used to call it "Silly bomber"

Thing I love most about your channel is finding these kind of games which I absolutely never would've known existed. Also your commentary on these games is top notch 👌

Haven’t played this game but the yellow suited nemesis reminds me so much of Teisel Bonne in megaman legends. You become nemesis’ with him simply due to you both looking for the motherload and you inherently stopping his plans. And every time you fight and beat him and his family, he has a “HOW?! HOOOOW?!?” Mentality. Also each fight has a bigger machine. To the point where one fight takes place in an “industrial district” of the first city where you fight a massive machine that crushes the buildings around you (aside from the first fight with them where it’s in a residential district and people’s home can actually be destroyed). What a great game

Fun fact, Tail Concerto's intro theme, For Little Tail, was also Kokia's first song! Unfortunately I've never been able to find a good quality version of the original, but she did pretty good versions since. She provided vocals for a few little games later on, such as Demon's Souls, Ar tonelico Qoga, FF 13-2 and Dark Souls 3.

loved this game so much as a kid...I really wish we'd get a revamp for it
