Although some have recommended seating primers a certain amount below flush, and other recommend crushing them a to a certain degree, all of the reloading manuals clearly state that seating the primers firm to the bottom of the primer pocket without crushing them is the correct way to seat primers to negate ignition issues (such as miss fires [due to either the primer not getting struck sufficiently because it was not seated to the bottom, or because the priming compound was overly crushed and will not ignite properly.], and hang fires [also due to overly crushed primers as well]).
So the clicks should not be a big deal. Basically set the clicks deep enough that you can feel the primers bottoming out, but not so much that you could accidently crush any of them. Then seat by feel.
I have one of these priming dies and could not be happier with it. Well ok I would be happier if I had one for each caliber I handload mounted on a turret press so all I would have to do to change cases would be turn the turret head to align the one in need. That way I would not have to unscrew the shell holders to swap them out. Nor would I have to go hunting the correct shell holder when needs be.
It’s the loose tolerance between the body and the internal shaft. You could prob fix it just as well by using a 10mm diameter flat base or some other contact point on the indicator and leaving the factory shaft inside. Anything that removes that little jiggle between the 2 surfaces. I have the oal gauge and ordered a 10mm convex point to try.
I've got the same 2 gauges. And the same problem with the AccuracyOne gauge and have abandoned it.. I'll give it another try with those new indicators and hope to get it to work properly.
And what about the Small Rifle Primer? Haven’t seen the stem that is small enough for the small rifle primer pocket. It’s a very precision made piece. I have the large. I’ll keep looking for the smaller diameter stem. Do you have a source for the small stem? Good video.
Maybe Accuracy One will see this Vid and come up with a set of stems for large and small primers and sell them with the kit? Seems to me they might offer you a bit of thanks for isolating the issue and then coming up with a cheap fix. Good Job. However, since this post is two years old now makes me believe that Accuracy One has no intention of upgrading this tool. To their credit I bet they never intended this tool to be used to that degree of accuracy which I find funny considering their name.
