Here after having watching both the 2023 & Galaxy movie. Yes they're flawed but overall it's clear the makers are truly passionate about the Mario series and it shows

“Dad…I don’t need shoes that badly”

Damn Dennis Hopper raised that kid well

“This could be our Batman”. Little did they know that there was a silent “and Robin” implied in their statement.

In a film where most of its elements don't feel anything at all like the video games I think Bob Hoskins did a tremendous job portraying Mario.

I actually saw this film on opening night when I was 17yo.
I'll never forget when "Yoshi" came on screen and the kids in the theater all said "That's Yoshi???"

Imagine a world where this movie starred Tom Hanks, Danny Devito and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I like how Morton’s version of the story, to make him look better, is that he chucked mud AND hot coffee at extras. Oh, ok.

the production design in this movie was actually insane and would have been great in any different movie

Ah yes, Hooker #1. An oft forgotten and underrated Mario character.

"Dark and gritty" "Super Mario Bros". DOES NOT COMPUTE.

They wanted their Mario movie to be dark and gritty. You know, in the spirit of the best selling games. I can't wait until we get the light hearted and comedic Last of Us movie we deserve.

5:06 “Nintendo and the producers worried that Tom Hanks wasn’t worth $5 million and didn’t have the IT factor to carry a dramatic movie”

Yet Disney and Pixar took the risk to cast him for Toy Story, and Hanks was so successful that he went on to play roles in Cast Away and The Terminal

This movie may have several inaccuracies but I think I speak for everyone when i say they shouldn't have gotten rid of Luigi's mustache

"Sorry Mr.Hanks, but we don't think you're a good enough actor to handle the grit of a super Mario movie."

...I feel bad for whoever had to say that. Must be a great story at parties.

That director's recollection of the coffee incident sounds the same as when you're fighting in elementary school and the teacher catches you, then the other kid recounts their part pristine...

Honestly, I feel like the gritty, sci-fi pitch wouldn’t have worked even without the constant script changes. Maybe on its own, but not for a Mario Bros. movie. They really should’ve stuck with the original fairy tale-like script.
