Hi Mel, I have the answer for you! You should snag yourself a knitting belt and long dpns. This technique has enabled Shetland knitters to make an all over Fair Isle pullover in one week! Hope you feel better soon, lots of love from Shetland xxxx

I second Yuliya's comment that it might be worth trying continental knitting. I learnt knitting the British way, then we moved to Norway and I switched to continental. It is much less strain on wrists and elbows, as one hardly moves one's elbows. It may be worth the inconvenience of slow knitting whilst learning continental (but I would recommend purling in the British way, even if you hold the yarn over your left fingers. It's easier that way, I think, than Norwegian purling... hope this makes sense 🙂). Hope your elbow heals soon. Looking forward to the next episode 😊

I knit the same way you do.  I find that if I tuck my  left elbow into my hip/side to support it that helps alot.  The other thing I find that I need to sit in a chair that doesn't have arms so I don't tend to rest my elbow on the arm of the chair.  Good luck.  Hope it gets better quickly.  I love all your knits I want to knit some marie wallin sweaters and that Alaska sweater is beautiful. I knit very much like you do and have found it extremely important for me to have my left elbow supported, I use a cushion behind it. It supports the weight of the knitting in many ways, and I feel it if I don't help by supporting it. Good luck~

I agree with resting your elbow on a cushion idea.  Last year I had a bout of cubical tunnel (tennis elbow) and am more careful now.  In terms of your knitting style, have you heard of “lever” knitting?  You are almost doing it.  I believe the Yarn Harlot has a tutorial and says it is the most ergonomic style.  My first knitting teacher taught it to me when I was 14.  Again, you are almost doing it….so you should look it up.  Thanks for a great podcast and sharing your beautiful knitting and life.

I injured my wrist last year knitting with 9" circs (never again!) and couldn't knit for a full day and I thought that was torture 😂 I used that time to do some knitting adjacent activities (ripped back a sweater, organized my stash, planned some future makes) -- No obsession here 🤣 I LOVE that you are "spreading the love" as well...the world can always use more of it 🤗💕

Ice. Rest. Anti-inflammatories. A little self massage. Consider learning to continental or Portuguese knit as an alternative I started out English style but I learned both after getting tendinitis in my thumb. Put a pillow on your lap and rest your arms on it and knit that way. See if @theknittingpt has some suggestions. She has lots of different reels on knitting injury rx and prevention

Your sweaters are so beautiful. I think your holistic approach will help. I also have elbow & wrist  issues. So hard to stop knitting even for a short time. Thank you 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

As a continental knitter, I don’t twist my left wrist at all. I also hold my left elbow very close to my body, so that prevents me from pains in my left elbow and shoulder. I mostly twist my right hand, but since I’m knitting at the very tips of the needles, the movements are super small
