▼Episode Introduction
"Everyone's Health Conference" is a podcast program hosted by Akino Kozo, a doctor and member of parliament, and an MC who knows absolutely nothing about politics and is completely indifferent to health.
This episode starts with a listener's question: "I'd like to know about adult developmental disorders. How can I understand my own quirks (individuality) and live a fulfilling life without becoming isolated?" Recently, we often hear about "developmental disorders" and "autism spectrum disorder." Dr. Akino argues that these are not illnesses, but rather "developmental imbalances," a spectrum of "individuality" that everyone possesses.
In fact, Dr. Akino himself was told by a senior doctor that he "might have hyperactivity (ADHD)!" However, he reveals a surprising anecdote: it was precisely this "high activity" characteristic that led to a historical medical discovery (the relationship between stomach cancer and H. pylori).
Instead of suffering by forcing oneself into societal frameworks, how can one find the "strike zone" where one's characteristics can thrive?
■ Are developmental disorders "developmental imbalances"? What is the boundary (spectrum) from neurotypical?
■ Characteristics turn into "strengths"! An example of excelling in car washing work
■ Dr. Akino's "hyperactivity" leads to a historical medical discovery
■ Special needs schools and "developmental therapy"... Choosing the right environment for independence
■ Should it be cured with medication? A way of thinking to "live authentically" without stifling individuality
This is a must-listen episode packed with "hints for living" that will lighten the heart of anyone struggling with their own characteristics or families raising children with developmental disabilities!
