Hinduism doesn't have a concept of conversion as it's final destination is moksha, whatever method people like. So, even if you follow Islam or Christianity, it comes under the umbrella of method defined by hinduism on the path to moksha or salvation

As Indonesian, we see India as an old sister and the teacher that teach us budaya (culture), bahasa (language), sastra (literature) and agama (religion).

You can see the names of Indonesia people have some words that came from Sanskrit. You will be confused when you meet men named "Muhammad Krisna", " Ahmad Dewa" Or "Wisnu Abdullah". That is common in Indonesia. You will see so many cities named from Sanskrit too. Like Jakarta came from "Jaya and Karta", " Indrapura", "Dharmas Raya" or "Jaya Pura" and etc. Indonesia was melting pot of so many cultures from big influences power thousands years ago! not India alone. Arab, Persia, and China played big influences too in Indonesia if we talk about the culture.

Vedic is part of Hinduism; Hinduism is the combination of all the Indian folk religions, cultures, and philosophies.

Hinduism is not a religion. It's just a cultural continuity. As simple as that.

As a native balinese, this video really covers well on this topic, but also i think i need to add few details on historical and present reality of why the Balinese people are united to the Balinese Hinduism. Allow me to answer beyond human reason or Niṣkalā. I hope readers also respect our local faith :

Balinese oral traditions and chronicles (Babad) frame the rejection of Javanese Islamic conversion attempts through a mix of spiritual sovereignty and cultural resilience. In these legends, the conflict is rarely just military; it is a battle of spiritual power (kesaktian). Javanese emissaries sent by rulers like Sultan Agung or earlier Islamic kings frequently challenged the Kings of Bali to mystical duels. Balinese rulers, backed by the spiritual forces of Hindu priests like the descendants of Dang Hyang Nirartha, consistently neutralized the magical arts of the Javanese messengers, forcing them to retreat or permanently settle in peace.

During the historical 1639 invasion, folklore attributes the Balinese victory at Kuta beach to niskala (invisible/divine) protection. Myth dictates that Javanese troops lost their legendary supernatural powers the moment they set foot on Balinese soil, leaving them vulnerable to the local forces. Furthermore, these myths often overlap with the golden era of King Dalem Waturenggong, who proudly rejected conversion by declaring Bali the ultimate guardian and rightful heir to the Majapahit Empire's heritage, vowing to preserve its customs at all costs.

Ultimately, these myths serve as cultural symbols of firm but respectful coexistence. While Balinese kings strictly rejected changing their faith, they accepted diplomatic gifts from Javanese rulers and welcomed the first Muslim communities to settle peacefully in places like Gelgel. These stories reinforce the historical identity of Bali as a spiritual fortress that protected its Hindu-Buddhist roots from external religious expansion.

Other reasons are, Desa Pakraman is a government unit managed by indigenous peoples, every region in Bali has a government concept of Desa Pakraman. Having three big temple (Kahyangan Tiga) in each village, or other temples having the same function and role as Kahyangan Tiga. So in every village it has some banjar facility where the community is obliged to socialize or involve themselves as members in conducting large ceremonies, either death ceremonies or religious ceremonies (to the 3 big temples), otherwise if not they will receive a fine or ostracized. This is why the Balinese people are very united because of a social responsibility.

Pedarman or Kawitan means that the Balinese people are very committed to the status of their offspring (caste or Vańģsa). If in other religions, if adherents come out of their religion then they will be commemorated by negative tones such as going to hell and so on, while Balinese people are afraid to leave Hinduism because they are afraid if their ancestors will no longer care for their offspring.

The Exact Reason is: Hinduism didn't had Missionaries back in the time

Hinduism is the umbrella term for all Indian native religions like African Traditional Religions or Chinese folk religions.

Tibetan Buddhism of Central Asia is a religion that directly succeeded Hinduism from India in Southwest Asia.

Hinduism did spread to Cambodia, Bali, Thailand — but through peaceful cultural exchange via merchants and scholars, not armies. That's why it stayed limited. ❤🕉️

Because Hinduism isn't exactly an organized religion. It's an umbrella term for the many religious or cultural practices of the indian subcontinent. Many of them were different and often contradictory to each other

Hinduism was not a religion.
Various clans have various gods tied with ancestry, ancestors worship,some gods became pan indian, some god became  avatar of another god, idol worship....
Continuous fluidity and evolution without sticking to a book as centre.
There doesnt exist a term like hinduism unless outsiders  mainly to define geography. There is nothing like conversions.
It is similar with roman panaganism, kemmestism, chinesse paganism, hellenism.
It was classified as a religion during 19th century British religious census.
