I bought one today for$ 25!!  He thought it was not running but I got it home and within 10 minutes I had it running!

My dad bought a new super xl manual oiler 1967, we cut a lot of brush and firewood on our farm. First saw I ever ran. Miss my dad and days cutting wood. I was 16 years old in 1967. Man time really passed away fast. Thanks for your videos, brings back a lot of memories.

My family’s first saw is a super xl non automatic. Needs a bunch of small things, it always ran so sweet. I have a photo of my late father smiling ear to ear running that super xl. Thanks Leon

Great explanation!  Some of the greatest saws EVER made!

People selling the older Homelite saws online are clueless about models and nomenclature often. Most don't realize that Homelite used the same words and letters in different combinations on multiple models of chainsaws over the decades. Homelite was all about improving and upgrading the XL12 platform throughout the 1960s. They had a real winner for a basic platform and it evolved to near perfect with the final iteration of the Super XL ( automatic oiling). The basic XL12 was still also one fine little saw. One reason it hung on for all those years.

When my Grandpa was logging Many years ago, he had the super xl12, xl12 in the blue color and one in red color but I don't remember what it was. All three were Homelite saws, slow by today's standard but he made his living logging and sawmilling.

spent a lot of hours on ipl's restoring my dads super xl12. your vids and store were a lifesaver. luckily it still had the metal tag on it. made it twice as exciting to restore, knowing it was more rare.

Thanks for this . I stopped trying to explain this .

Tiliston carberated.....manual oiler....Super XL....blue...really like the saw..  Cuts fast...

Very good video, grew up on super XL Saws

Yes I have my dads that he bought new in the mid 60's.

Thanks for straightening out the confusion.

I have a Super XL-12 that my father gave to me back in the mid-1980's. (S/N 1789162) Fairly sure he originally picked it up at a farm sale in the early 1970's.  Always ran great and only repairs that I remember doing to it was to replace the bar and chain, and also repair one of the ends of the handle after i managed to break it.

I was told many years ago to tip it upside down and drain out all of the gas after every time it was used.  It always starts and I believe that draining out the gas really helps.  Until I watched this video I never realized how old it was.  Thanks for posting this.

I love the various colors and combinations of colors Homelite used. All were eye pleasing to me. That is amazing they never had a crappy color or color combination in my opinion.

I have a supper xl-12 & a super xl an a xl-700. Thanks for helping me correctly identify the super xl. I had been under the impression it was a xl-12

I love those saws you got I run homelite xl chainsaw and super xl and xl12 too

Had several of these, all blue, still got a couple, but everyone cuts great, very dependable, strong and light.

I've had more of those saws than I can fit in the back of my truck. They all met the same demise ... crank seals

There was also an early blue “Super XL” (no ‘12’), and an export-only Super XL-“12” Automatic.

I had an XL12 the clutch cover is the best Design of any chainsaw
