Historically and geographically, King Porus was undeniably an ancestor of the Punjabis. He was a native Punjabi ruler of the local Paurava clan who ruled the heartland of ancient Punjab, situated between the Jhelum and Chenab rivers. Rather than being an outside invader, he was a true son of this soil. The soldiers and people who fought alongside him against Alexander in the Battle of the Jhelum in 326 BC were native inhabitants of Punjab, making King Porus rightly recognized as the very first great historical warrior and ancestor of the Punjabi people.
