Slavery has not been abolished. It still exists in many parts of the world

There is a good movie about William Wilberforce titled “Amazing Grace “ that demonstrates just how hard and how long he worked in Parliament for the freedom of slaves. It was grueling for him.

The Quakers were one of the first Christian groups who wouldnt allow membership to slave owners and had a huge role in abolitionism and the underground railroad. It's kinda sad that the majority of American knowledge about them is reduced to a grocery store item.

There's an opinion that I've heard: in the USSR (my home country), the Gulag camps had not been abolished because politicians suddenly became compassionate. It was abolished because by that time, manual labor became more expensive than machine production, as the latter was getting cheaper and cheaper while the former wasn't.

The movie "Amazing Grace" is about William Wilberforce. Good movie, well acted, and a reminder about this man.

Great video and the analysis of the different factors was really interesting. Good to see William Wilberforce getting credit - he deserves more for his persistence in fighting for a moral cause over such a long span.

Few people realise the impact industrialization would have on slavery over time, not just the different mode of working but tools and machines that could replace owned people.

The fact that machinery advanced to the stage where it could do the work of slaves more cheaply was a huge contributing factor to the ending of slavery.
I don't think that was covered enough.
