In 1944 Nils Mockler dropped out of high school and joined the Marine Corps, calling it "the best decision" he ever made. Mockler would go on to become a Combat Intelligence Scout with the 4th Marine Division's Tank Battalion.
Mockler would get his first taste of combat in February of 1945, when the United States Marine Corps landed on Iwo Jima, an eight-square-mile volcanic island in the Pacific, which they found well fortified and home to 22,000 Japanese soldiers.
The battle would rage for thirty-six days and become the bloodiest battle in Marine Corps history.

Freedom over feelings is what they fought and died for, and I like to believe still do.
My dad knew a WWII vet who served in graves registration and tragically the man took his own life about 25yrs after the war.
Fuckin epic.... Ohh Rahh Sir! Men like you are the reason my Beloved Corps will live forever!!!!
