Why did Kyiv cease to be the capital of the lands of Ancient Rus'?

In this video, we examine one of the major turning points in Russian history: how Kyiv effectively lost its status as the capital in the mid-12th century, and the role played by Andrei Bogolyubsky.

Yuri Dolgoruky expended enormous effort to gain the Kiev throne. He achieved his goal, but was no longer able to maintain Kyiv's former importance. After his death, the course of events changed: his son, Andrei Bogolyubsky, no longer relied on Kyiv, but on Vladimir.

Why didn't Andrei Bogolyubsky need Kyiv?
How did Vladimir become the new center of power?
And what happened to Kiev itself after this historical turn?

This is covered in a lecture about Andrei Bogolyubsky, one of the most controversial princes of Ancient Rus'.
