One thing to add about human skin tones, we do have a green one, is called olive and is found mainly in middle east, but is also common among Italy and other places too. We have 3 main undertones, with is cool (pink to a hint of bluish/purple color), a warm (mainly yellow), and olive (green), and you have an extra with is neutral, when someone is in the midle, having kind of equal parts of the others. All of them have their own light to dark scale too.

Dang I always wondered why some of my skin tones would look chalky and could never find an answer. Nice to finally have a question answered.

Kingdom models vs GW is wild in terms of model design

Can't help but notice the very interesting selection of minis

I know its not your miniature style, but when you were speaking about connecting the skin it would be nice to have an bulky dude miniature... sometimes I feel like creatures of such miniatures are forcing you to disconect the skin and then its hard to fight against it...

Efficient, as usual.
I really love your vids : straight to the point, quite clear, and funny.

Magenta is a legit such an OP glaze for shadows. I use it mixed with some dark pyrple and glaze medium on almost all of my minis

I got a couple kingdom death figs for xmas and I'm looking forward to trying some of these tips.  Thanks!

You’re channel really cleaned up after your consultation YouTube strategy

Great great videos!

OMG the shirt! I'm going to have to get it for an artist friend of mine.

Lots of good tips

Thank you for the content!

Thanks man, I'm pretty sure this was my question answered. Lots of good info

I just realised this recently, now I use satin medium on Matt paints and matt varnish to finish

excellent stuff. thank you!

one of the guys at the FLGS had a very interesting technique for skin highlights using a sketching technique. the example he showed was a Blood Bowl Dwarf whose skin tone he based with Cadian Fleshtone. Instead of then using Kislev flesh (like we expected), he diluted the Cadian way more than normal. And it looked lighter for some damned reason. I'm not precise enough to use sketching very well, but i will keep trying to ape his tricks.

Watched!❤

This is super helpful. I'm about to start my first 75mm model so pushing my skills. And skin will be so important. I'm aiming for pale skin so those blends and avoiding chalkiness will be so key.

Love your work. Also, which brand of brushes are you using - they have a nice belly and point, I only seem to be able to find ones with nice points but not enough belly!

I do paint Catachans with that wrong way you pointed out on GW box art because its easy, but I do see how they could be so much better if done your way.

I definitely planned on making a mini's face a little brighter than the rest of her body to draw attention to it.  It was definitely not an accident from pushing highlights further in a more connected way on her face compared to the rest of her body while also flying a little blind because the whole skin tone was shifted way more towards a purple by a single drop of acrylic ink because I wasn't getting a new paint for the one mini in the unit I wanted to look mutated.

I've thankfully seemed to have dodged the chalkiness issue by glazing with a more medium skin tone, if not the darker mix I used for a base layer.  Since I've taken the approach of starting with the darkest tone and building to lighter ones, I'm generally trying to knock down the paler/lighter skin tone highlights for a smoother blend and it sounds like there's good reason all the skin tutorials didn't recommend going the other way.

Had a thought that might be a good idea for a contrast video if you hadn’t already thought of it. Plus I would just love to see this idea in your style lol. But have you thought about doing a “reverse” job? Like painting the weapons/armor like you would skin or cloth and painting the body of the mini metallic? Just a random idea that I haven’t seen before. 🙂
