On September 28, 2011, an abandoned car was found in Chaum, in the Haute-Garonne department, 25 km from the Spanish border. Upon discovering a charred carcass in the trunk, firefighters and police initially suspected poachers. However, a few days later, they realized it wasn't the remains of an animal, but the body of Jacques Serraye, 59, known to the police. He had a criminal record for drug trafficking and weapons possession and had served several years in prison.
