Rip Val Kilmer 🕊️

@Hananotaka 1 year ago

Back in 1995, this movie was huge because it was the first time Pacino and De Niro, still in their primes, acted together in a film.

Val's reloading technique scene is praise by military experts. Such a fantastic film

Rest In Peace To Val Kilmer 1959-2025

Assuming they didn't know any trivia about Val's weapon-handling for this movie, they sure as hell noticed it on their own and acknowledged how awesome it was

Thank you Blind Wave for spending time at the end discussing one of the greatest over-the top improvised scenes ever. The way Al Pacino delivered that line has lived rent free in my head for decades.

The scene of Pacino and De Niro having their conversation over coffee is a true masterclass in acting, writing and directing! These two enemies being completely honest with each other about their lives and how even though they respect each other they will not go easy on each other, it’s s impossible to look away from.

"FUCK!!! It's BOTH of them!" I had to rewind it to watch again. That's a new favorite Aaron moment.

RIP, Val Kilmer and Tom Sizemore.

Fun fact, the beginning from Heat is the same train station that ends in Colleteral. And the airport that ends Heat is the one that begins Colleteral. Both movies are from Michael Mann.

Al Pacino has said in interviews over the years that he imagined his character (Det. Vincent Hanna) became addicted to cocaine over the years due to the depressing nature of his work and is doing lines several times per day.

Once you consider that his performance makes A LOT more sense. hahaha

Everybody talks about Kilmer reloading like a boss, but my favorite BTS nugget:

The bank they rob, during pre-production Michael Mann told DeNiro, Kilmer, Sizemore and Haysbert to case the place. Go in, and just scope the place out. Sizemore filled out a loan application while Kilmer watched security guards. Guards paid 0 attention to who was walking in and out so Mann wanted to take the intel from their casing. Wild shit.

Blind Wave: We’re going to watch Heat!

Me: This crew is good. I mean are these guys something or are they something?

27:00 Incredible delivery 😂😂

1995 was a phenomenal year for crime films: Heat (inspired The Dark Knight), Se7en (inspired The Batman), The Usual Suspects, Casino, La Haine, etc...

This movie was the first time that Pacino & De Niro actually shared the same scene. They were both in The Godfather Part II but in separate scenes (it was a sequel and a prequel).

“I’ve never heard of Michael Mann”, blew me away. Check out ‘The Insider’, ‘Collateral’, ‘Miami Vice’, ‘Thief’ he’s got a bunch of great ones. Heat is his magnum opus though

Next movie should be Collateral

As a young person who loved movies at an early age, "Heat" was one of the movies I snuck out of my room late at night when the parents were asleep to watch and didn't care if I was tired, sleeping all day at school.
