Gorillaz has two permanent members...Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett.  Damon is the principal vocalist on all the songs and handles musical direction, while Jamie is responsible for the art and character designs.  As mentioned by other commenters, Damon was in Blur, and Jamie is also known for his comic book character Tank Girl, which was adapted into a feature film in the 90s starting Lori Petty.  They were roommates back in college and have had a decades long friendship and collaboration at this point.

You can tell when she was gonna pause right before the windmill part, then it caught her before she could. Honestly such a good song to be introduced with.

He tends to sing a bit behind the beat or a bit sharp or flat...he kind of emphasizes a "lazy" sort of vibe while the rappers are always super on point in the production

Your look of confusion and mild concern starting at @00:37 is the standard response to watching a Gorillaz music video for the first time. Any of them.

Gorillaz is basically one person's creative project featuring a plethora of guest artists. The band is fictional and animated, and some songs have been performed live, but Gorillaz dabbles in a host of different genres. And this song has only two vocalists, the main guy (Damon Albarn) and a recurring guest artist Dave Jolicoeur, from the rap group De La Soul who performed all laughs and rap parts. This band is a very wild, amazing rabbit hole to dive into.

It is honestly wild that an adult so knowledgeable would not have heard Feel Good Inc. in 2026. This is not a dig or insult, it's just amazing to me how different people's experiences can be. Gorillaz is foundational for me, I was listening to them as a kid, and I keep hearing them everywhere throughout my life. Meanwhile there are people who still get to experience it for the first time, and that's awesome.

Damon Albarn is a generational talent. His influence on music since the early 90's cannot be overstated.

One thing I love about this song, is how the percussion are very much in dialogue with the vocals, not just under it.

"Clint Eastwood" should be next

I wrote a whole like 14 page paper in college analyzing the lyrics and art in Feel Good Inc. It is so cool to now hear the analysis of the part I didn't have the expertise to write about!

the rapping gentleman are DE LA SOUL. Legends. Gorillaz often feature american rap legends in their music.

Damon Albarn is a damn genius. And those De La Soul rap verses are chef's kiss.

This song is nothing but a vibe. You can't hear it without just grooving to it.

4:54 had a coworker at a hotel for like 5 years. He had a really strange laugh where he kept the same tone the whole way. His laugh was like listening to a record skipping and repeating the same part. Every single part of his laugh was the same, 😂. Only guy ive ever run into with the most consistently sounding laugh ever

Damon Albon intentionally made his voice sound pitch-unstable using lofi, vintage hardware so it always sounds a bit off. Brilliant imo.

It's hard to believe you've never heard this, it's been a massive hit for 15 years now.

Listening to people who are just discovering Damon Albarn in 2026 is kind of a wild experience. I'm not criticizing in any way, but it makes me wonder how most of the 1990's music scene now gets interpreted by these same folks.

The use of contrast in vocals is core to Damon's style, shifting mood and tone by drifting between singing, spoken and the melodic in between.

When I first heard this song as a teenager, it made me look up and learn the words "ephemeral" and "melancholy"

I’d say it’s more “nonchalant” than flat. It reminds me of the kind of unbothered, carefree “spoken singing” you hear in some older French music, like Stephan Eicher, La Femme, Alain Souchon, Françoise Hardy, etc. Not that it sounds the same, there’s just something about the vibe and the spoken-word delivery that reminds me of the way some French singers phrase their vocals.
