Chapter: The Blood Ravens
Affiliation: Loyal(ish)
Primarch: Trazyn the Infinite

We Blood Ravens do 3 things.
1: Kill the enemies of Man.
2: Aquire Knowledge, Relics, and wargear.
3: Chew bubblegum, and we’re always out of bubblegum.

Last time I was this early, the Blood Ravens knew who their Primarch was

The best part of Blood Ravens are the memes.

Someone probably stole the blood ravens history and they're trying to steal it back

Two random blood ravens: "We did it force commander! We 'recovered' a full suit of custodes armor, from the imperial palace and brought it back here!"
"YOU WHAT!?"

Blood Raven = Bloody Magpie, I always took the stealing as a British joke about the birds stealing stuff.

Inquisition making Blood Ravens from Dark Angels to figure out the Dark Angels' tomfoolery would actually be a galaxy-brain move on their part, which means there's no way in hell it can be true.

I do think there was a point when GW was planning on them being Thousand Sons. In the early Horus Heresy stuff they had some direct connections made that felt like set up... which then was entirety dropped later on.

Specifically in Burning of Prospero we had a psyker have a vision he describes as: "Oh Throne... no, the blood! The Ravens, i see them too! The lost sons and a raven of blood. They cry out for salvation and knowledge, but it is denied"

So its very likely that at some point GW was actually going with the Thousand Sons idea, but that was probably abandoned in the decade since then

Hippity Hoppity It’s Now Blood Raven Property!

Ali Raven and his 1001 Thieves

Dark Angels successor you say and supposedly The Lion is supposed to show up in Dawn of War 4 and meet the Blood Ravens. Hmm that is a thought.

For Blood Ravens crusading is the temu of 40k.

Wait a minute... Are you telling us the Blood Ravens didn't paint Bjorn the Fell Handed red and make him their space grand daddy?

This one is obvious. They're Loyalist Thousand Sons. At least the Blood Raven Chapter Master or Chief Librarian learned this, thought this was cringe immediately, and has been coping with their dark secret ever since.

The whole stealing relics thing is a desperate attempt to find any proof that Magnus isn't their primarch.

When the Blood Ravens showed up in Space Marine to backup Captain Titus I was so hyped and I pray we see them in SM3

I personally have theory that they come from the thousand sons but specifically from Revuel Arvida the last member of the thousand sons cult of the raven.

At a meta level, I feel like the Blood Ravens were created to be ultimate distillation of what a Space Marine chapter is.

They are secretive and have a dark shame like the Dark Angels, they have a huge vehicle pool and fight war though combined arms like the Iron Hands. The place a lot of emphasis on scouting and stealth like the Raven Guard and they love building defences and create forward operating bases planet side to conduct warfare like the Imperial Fists.

Lastly, they have blood in their name and an aggressive paint scheme… so I guess that covers the blood angels. Oh and the whole psyker thing of course.

The only outlier I can think of is the White Scars, while they succeed in really establishing that your average space marine chapter is not a carbon copy of the Ultramarines.

I am certain that the creatives at Relic intentionally drew upon the core chapters to distil what made the SM iconic and fun.

They then probably took all that influence and worked the ambiguity of their heritage into the story for the added mystery.

I love the Blood Ravens, they hold so much character and the first game really does capture what I imagine the crazy wars of the grim dark future to look like.

Thanks for the video, and I hope you enjoyed my Ted talk.

Edited for spelling.

Gabriel Angelos: Father why was I not worthy? Why was I not good enough for the Titus treatment?

Gw: who are you?

Hippity hoppity, you'll never convince me that most Blood Raven gear isn't stolen property.
