Larry Holmes had one of the greatest jabs heavyweight boxing has ever seen. So why does he still get treated like an afterthought? In this breakdown, I dig into the mechanics behind that legendary jab, the right hand it set up, his use of the mummy guard (and its surprising lineage back to Jack Johnson), his footwork, feints, combinations, and the ring IQ that carried him to a seven-year heavyweight title reign with 20 title defenses.

I met Larry, in his hometown. He comically feigned surprise when i recognized him😂 he had a pretty easy way about him; considering hes literally one of the absolute greatest strikers in any martial art! His right cross was criminally underrated, btw

We don't talk enough about his handspeed, especially his one two !

Muscle memory is crazy even at Holmes age, that jab demonstration is still certified

I was surprised to see how coherent Larry is explaining his jab. Dude was so good he didn't even get CTE

Larry is one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and unfortunately I don’t think he’ll get all the credit he deserves until he’s not with us anymore. It’s a shame that people don’t appreciate what they have until it’s gone.

I always remember how he stand up after taking a full hit from shavers; like that alone makes you a legend.

the most underrated heavyweight legend ever.
he was unfortunate to come after Ali and near the era of Tyson, foreman.

Great job on this video. Holmes was always one of my all time favorites. 7 years a king is underrated. His style always reminded me of a marksman.

Another really good video, excellent in fact, Jamie. Not a boring or wasted minute in the whole thing. I’m a long time Holmes fan and I learned a lot from watching this.
PS: FWIW I thought Larry won the Spinks rematch

It's a shame because out-boxers are actually really interesting and exciting fighters, but greats like Holmes don't get the real credit they deserve

The BEST documentary on Larry Holmes that I've ever seen 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Excellent job!

I remember Holmes would refer to his jab and right hook as his “Dogs”., as in it’s “time to let the dogs out”. Holmes took it easy on a past his prime Ali. It was a sad fight. Holmes was such an underrated great fighter.

I love the jab. It works! Larry Holmes had the snappiest jab I've ever seen.

Holmes and wladimir klitschko “Dr steel hammer” had the most intentional jabs. That’s why these two had the longest record as champions. These were domineering jabs but thrown differently. I used to enjoy when klitschko would tell his opponents “ you’ll be a better person after the procedure”
