I was taught slip one, knit one, pass over by my mum in England many years ago. But I haven’t used it for a long time, I’d even forgotten about it. This was a very helpful video. Thank you.

A great study! I’m going to adopt S1 KW, S1 PW, K2togTBL and then work the stitch through the back loop on the return row or the next round.
I’ve always been dissatisfied with how SSK lines look. Thank you so much!

If working back and forth, try the ssk from the wrong side! The yarn enters the stitch in the same way that it enters k2tog (from the right side)

try working a left leaning decrease - as seen from the front side - try working it as a right leaning decrease on the BACK side. Was it Pricilla Gibson Roberts who taught me this??? I know that I read it in a book or magazine.

It has to do with how the yarn enters the two stitches. When worked from the back side, it just works! Try it!

Of course, this won't work when knitting in the round but it works great when working back and forth.

Slip one, knit one, psso, which you said was the French method, was the original way to do a left leaning decrease. Barbara G. Walker invented ssk. It's not great, but still better and easier than the original way.
I think No. 8 looks best.

Absolutely, can you do comparison of short row methods? Sock heels? Bind offs?

My favorite is wrapping the yarn clockwise on the purl stitches (entering purlwise as usual), introducing a half twist, and then entering the stitches as if you’ve already done the slip slip and knitting like usual. Effectively, this does the slip purlwise on the purl row (if working flat) and takes no more time than a k2tog

Note: this loads the stitches with the leading leg in back and the yarn is un-plied or just lays less tight on the needle making it easier to pick up part of the yarn

This is amazing! Thank you for taking the time to experiment, and eventually share your findings on a neater SSK. I’ve been searching videos and books to troubleshoot my gripe about the look of the OG SSK. I love your version and will definitely incorporate it into my pieces in the future! ❤

I'm late to this video, so I made sure one wasn't posted in the meantime; a video comparing short rows would be amazing. I'm only a couple of sweaters in to my knitting journey and I don't fully understand the difference between the various short rows. You're an amazing teacher and I'm always so thankful you decided to take the time to make English videos!
