If you think it's an issue of your English, I'm a native English speaker and I think your voice and English is great. I have no problem understanding your older videos and I think it gives your channel more of a personal touch.

When everything looks “cinematic,” to my eye the boring shots looked better

That was really detailed and accurate work to recreate the reference artwork. I can only imagine the amount of effort gone into this to create an effect such as that. And all this have to do with knowing which lights to use, what angles to put the lights and the levels of all the camera settings for capturing the images.
