Germany is RAPIDLY remilitarizing - and it's a much bigger deal than most people realize. Russia's invasion of Ukraine is playing a big part, but it's not the only factor. In fact, Germany is currently experiencing the perfect storm. From a floundering auto industry that sees military revenue as a path forward, to Donald Trump's foreign policy, which has weakened the position of the United States in the future global arms trade, many things are coalescing to give Germany the incentives - and the opportunity - to reestablish themselves as a global military powerhouse. The effects will be far-reaching - and we're only just beginning to truly understand them.

German person writing here: We do not want to become powerful, but even I see the necessity to be strong enough to face down bullies in the neighbourhood.

I know Germany and the Netherlands had merged a part of their military. I discovered this because they walk together as unit in the Nijmeegse 4 daagse. 😀
It’s the 1 German-Dutch Corps (1 DNC), a fully integrated unit since 1995, with shared command and joint operations. Shows how Germany’s military expansion today is also about European cooperation, not just national growth.

I am working in the German mechanical enginnering industry for a supplier of large transmissions. We have now started to seek opportunities in the field of defence (military vehicles, ships, etc.) and there is considerable effort in the industry (organizations etc.) to go this way. So your analysis is pretty spot on, I would say.

I'm Lithuanian and they are establishing a military presence here specifically to be a tripwire when ruski comes. I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I do look forward for Luftwaffe airplanes in our skies by '39 😁

Despite the necessary shift toward rearmament, Merz seems to overlook the historical danger of appeasement. By suggesting that Ukraine may have to accept territorial losses to pave the way for EU membership, he ignores how satisfying an aggressor only fuels long-term resentment. Allowing a regime to consolidate gains simply provides a tactical pause to lick wounds before the next escalation. This cyclical nature of aggression proves that rewarding land grabs never buys lasting peace, but instead guarantees a more violent resurgence once military strength is restored

You can't see Germany as doing this alone... for example the Nordic countries military complex are closely linked with the German military complex and both are scaling up fast together... much faster than the rest of Europe. The Nordic countries possess allot of highly skilled expertise and component manufacturing that companies such as Rheinmetall uses... this is not a pure German enterprise for the future it is more of a north/central European military buildup.
