In my playing I am 60% wrist, 40% elbow, if that makes sense. I have read a lot about how you shouldn't use your wrist in the game, but it has always worked for me. I think a lot of times, beginners think "shouldn't use your wrist" means keeping their wrist rigid, and not loose, and this ends up causing problems. The two (wrist and elbow) are joints of the same shooting arm. Making them both work in unison to shoot ur shot shouldn't be a problem.

Imagine a train going 40 mph. Now, imagine that WITH another train stacked on top, the top train is going 20mph.

So the bottom train is your elbow and responsible for most of the power. The top train is your wrist and has untapped, potential energy. That potential energy, when you understand train 1 and train 2 concept, you’ll be shooting loose as a goose. No longer throwing your back out for a table length draw/stun/stop shot.

very cool video...you mentioned some shots that you should not to use wrist action, but there's 2 shots you didn't mention that I've tried wrist action with success. I try breaking with a medium hard stroke (about 75%?) with wrist action to be more consistent where I contact both the cue ball and object ball. If I hit >90% power it's harder for me to have consistent contacts. Also on jump shots I use wrist action to more consistently contact the cue ball and finesse the cue over the ball I'm jumping using as little power as needed to best control the cue ball. If possible can you consider doing a video on wrist action during break and jump shots? BR/Dan in Michigan👍

Your wrist action looks a bit too rush. I like SVB's wrist technique with a little pause at the backswing.

Hi, I use this method too. But trying to understand the reason behind it, I’d say that with an open bridge hand, some of the rebound energy between the cue and the cue ball gets absorbed or lost.

With a closed bridge hand, on the other hand, more of the energy is transferred directly through the cue into the cue ball. So, with the same stroke, you get more energy and momentum along the cue–cue-ball line.

What do you think?

In fact, I’ve noticed that even very thin cuts, when played with a closed bridge, seem to transfer much more movement to the balls.

I miss my old cue for the grip it had just for this type of shooting. Thought about getting a wrap as this plays feel a bit easier to do this especially when colder

Your videos have been a big help. Thanks for providing them. You asked for comments, so here goes. This may be too technical, so bear with me. Today, I began working on your “loose wrist action” for the first time shooting simple draw shots as you recommended. Should I try to have the “Wrist Snap” just as the cue tip is striking the cue ball? Is that the timing that I should concentrate on? Thanks for your help.

I use a similar technique when doing a drag shot. I loosen my grip so I get good action on the cue ball without a bunch of power. I never thought about it like you demonstrated. I stumbled on it during practice one day. It was difficult to repeat at first but overtime and LOTS of practice, I can complete the shot pretty consistently now. Great video!

I noticed when you were shooting you had a noticeable elbow drop. If you've the time I have a couple of questions on that.
Firstly, do you consider elbow drop absolutely necessary to shoot with this wrist action?
Secondly, what is your opinion on the elbow drop/no elbow drop debate? Is no elbow drop preferable or does it really not matter?
I wish I could pose this comment in German for you, but I have enough problem with my native language. 😁
