Nanda Devi East Base Camp Trek | Johar Valley, Munsiyari | Uttarakhand Himalayas 🏔️
Deep inside the remote and spectacular Johar Valley of Uttarakhand lies one of the most extraordinary trekking routes in the Kumaon Himalayas — the Nanda Devi East Base Camp Trek.
In this video, we travel deep into the mountains from Munsiyari, following the ancient trails of the Johar Valley towards the mighty Nanda Devi East, also known as Sunanda Devi. Along the way, the landscape slowly transforms from Himalayan forests and roaring rivers to remote villages, alpine valleys, glaciers and towering snow-covered peaks.
Our journey takes us through some of the most remote corners of Pithoragarh district, passing places like Lilam, Bugdiyar, Rilkot, Martoli and Ghanghar before heading deeper towards the Nanda Devi East Base Camp and the Panchu Glacier.
But this journey is not just about reaching a base camp.
Johar Valley carries centuries of Himalayan history and culture. The old villages, traditional houses, abandoned settlements and ancient routes tell stories of a time when these mountains were part of the historic Indo-Tibetan trade route.
And as we move higher, the mountains begin to reveal themselves — Nanda Devi East, Nanda Kot, Hardeol and the enormous Himalayan ranges surrounding this remote valley.
This is a journey into one of the lesser-explored parts of Uttarakhand — far away from crowded tourist destinations and deep into the raw wilderness of the Himalayas.
