The first Nimbin Aquarius Festival aimed to celebrate alternative thinking and sustainable lifestyles. The ten-day event was held from in 1973.
It is often described as Australia's equivalent to the Woodstock Festival and the birthplace for Australia's hippie movement.
The festival was then a way of drawing attention to the legalisation and decriminalisation of marijuana.

I couldn’t stop laughing through the whole vlog Glen with the coffee mushroom. What a town Nimbin is. 😂

Yes, Nimbin is FULL Hectic Hippy. Did a tour down there to Byron, but sadly, Nimbin is no longer included on the day trip to Byron. Fascinating beautiful village. The recreational activities they may engage in, doesn't really bother me at all 🙄❗️😳

WOW, such a huge video, so many towns you visited, and Nimbin hippy capital of Australia, but I do think Glen got high on the smoke 😅❤

I live in Lismore and during the Sydney Olympics Nimbin had a version of the Olympic torch run but instead of a torch it was a massive joint. I noticed the small part of Lismore that you displayed was around the Cathedral which also holds a primary and secondary school, however, after the large flood in 2002 the secondary school has moved over to East Lismore and is now a part of the college area. Also you would note all the fences around houses near the cathedral these are properties that were affected by the flood and are now referred to as Buy-Back houses which will either be moved to higher ground or demolished.

I lived in the nearby Art Deco town of Kyogle and attended the original Age of Aquarius festival in 1973. It was a real eye-opener 😮 as an 8 year old child😵‍💫🤯🥳... I wish I was still there as it was a really beautiful region to grow up in.
Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, Glen and Mado.❤

Would have loved to see Madam eat a few of those Hash cookies, nothing funnier than a German in fits of laughter

Glad you discovered my eccentric part of Australia (we locals call it the Northern Rivers). You just skimmed my town (Lismore) en route to Nimbin. Glad you had a good visit. Apart from the villages, there are amazing rainforests & waterfalls in the mountains - even a crystal castle near Mullum. Check them out if you come back this way. Lismore even has allyways with so many murals we call it the back street gallery. You're final scene at Misty Mountain really typified the region. The mountains you so loved are called the Nightcap Range, spectacular!

Funny video. They are all nuts there but still worth a visit. There's a good candle factory in Nimbin.

You know what, I think you guys are working undercover for the Australian Tourist Bureau. You can't fool me, I see what you're up to. And a very good job you're doing too!
