This year marks Tzu Chi's 60th anniversary, and the "Infinite Meaning of the Dharma Essence" sutra performance will be staged at the Taipei Arena, bringing together tens of thousands of performers. Beyond the sutra readings, the performance will also incorporate various traditional art forms such as Peking Opera, Taiwanese Opera, and drumming, offering a fresh interpretation of Buddhist stories. Among the performers, Tang Wen-hua, the principal actor of the Guoguang Opera Troupe specializing in both civil and military roles, will participate in the sutra performance for the first time, using Peking Opera singing and movements to portray the story of the Tang Dynasty monk Jianzhen's journey to Japan. He will also take on the role of a volunteer, showcasing Tzu Chi members' dedication and service to the community. Having spent half a century in theatrical performance, he brings his decades of honed skills to this new stage, allowing traditional Peking Opera and Buddhist stories to converge at the Taipei Arena.
