Best way to use that compass is EVERYTIME you get off trail point compass in direction you will be heading, turn dial and put "Red arrow in the Shed", this sets the compass direction you will be heading, return direction is 180 degrees from that setting.  Do this everytime you get off trail, this is where most people get lost, get off trail to use bathroom or stealth camp, get turned around and then everything looks different, you need to set compass before you get off trail to be of any use.

The first camping is always a special experience! :)
I would have done a few things differently: Packing your backpack. I use the men's version of the same backpack and for hikes, when you have to carry a tent, more food, extra clothes, you are going to need more space. You can compress your sleeping bag by pulling the straps, and always put it in the bottom of your backpack.
Some people like to use dry bags, I prefer to use a large trash bag. It's much cheaper and lighter. I just put it in my backpack, and pack everything right inside. On rainy days it's important that your sleeping bag is protected from water, because the bottom of your backpack ( where your sleeping bag is) will get wet till the end of the day (even if you use the rain cover).
The self inflating mats are big and heavy, but - in my opinion - the most comfortable mats. You have to blow some extra air in it to make it comfortable.
Also, before the hike / camping it's good to spend 1 or 2 nights on the mat, so you get used to it and will be able to sleep well in the tent.

I love your sweaters! Devold Svalbard is exactly what I want to buy. Was it warm enough?

Thank you for the video fellow Norwegian. I am heading out on a short hike with my hammock and I am trying consume as much knowlage as I can. Tarp is definitely something I am getting 😂

Great video. Glad you had a good first time.

What a fantastic lifestyle hiking and foraging through Norwegian mountains and fjords. You certainly have yourself geared up and well prepared for it all. Lots of adventure out there so go for it.

This level of planning is impressive,  I had no idea there was a DNT course on sleeping outdoor. How to use map and compass is an important skill set in the national parks,  there ain't mobile coverage everywhere.  Trips around Oslo is nice to learn what gear and food to bring, but Ida and you shouldn't be afraid of taking a longer trips, what matters is to go on a good weather forecast.   Oct-Nov is a bad period for national parks, so wet and cold, day trips around Oslo is better.

❤❤❤❤❤❤love from the UK 🇬🇧

I love the vibe, it's so cozy! Also it's so much fun to witness your new adventures🤩 Good luck with your next trip ❤️

Your bigger backpack is great 👍

your hair is so nice :D so curly and vibrant haha :) i grew up with an overdose of Friluftsliv haha :D i recommend staying at Kobberhaughytta if you live in Oslo :) you just go past Sognsvann and about nine km youre there! its staffed and you get three course dinner there or Pizza :D haha :D i like your positive vibe :D

🖖👍

👏👌⛺️🪵🔥🇳🇴🤠

Great video, Linny. I love Norway and the outdoors. Have been a Scout Leader for 30 years and had many scout trips to your beautiful country, among those the Hardangervidda and canoeing the Klarälven in Norway and Sweden several times. I live in Denmark, so Norway is pretty close.
About the selfinflating mat; you have to blow it to get confortable. Mine is also just the thin one (3cm thick fully inflated) and quite comfortable when you have blown as much air into it as possible 😀

Great video! thanks for this and sharing it! Hope there are going to come lots more!

So cool! Wanna go hiking now 🌿

Great video, keep up the good work! Looks like you’re on your way 👍🏻

Nice video!

Netherlands here 🙋 just wanted to say I love woods around Oslo and may have some hiking ideas. I've never been in the Vestmark but hiked and camped a lot in the Nordmark. There's some nice beginnerfriendly hikes you can do there.

Day 1
I usually start at Sognsvann, (and camped there on the day I arrived in Norway) and go north to Ullevålseter. There's two routes, both are nice. From there head east and north to Fagervann for the first camp. You arrive at the northside and I usually circle around to the east shore, there's a couple of cool campspots there.

Day 2
Head north to Øyungen and hike further north along the eastern shore. Beautiful lake. Further north there's a split at Liggern where you can

1) head east and then south into Mellomkollen naturreservat, turning this into a twoday trip making it excellent weekend trip (or a threeday trip if you stay the night in the DNT hut there). I recommend the eastern route that passes by the viewpoint and ends at the trainstation in Snippen, it's a beautiful route through an overgrown gorge ones you're past the viewpoint.

2) head west and north towards Helgeren. This is the steepest part of the day so take your time as needed. There's a nice little campspot that fits two tents at the southern point of the lake just past the dam. You can camp there or head on towards Bjørnsjøen if you're up for a longer day of hiking. Along the eastern part of northern shore there's a little peninsula where you can camp and it's just stunning, my favourite campspot within two days from Oslo. Quite popular in the weekends.

Day 3
Head south towards Kobberhaughytta. Just before you get there there's a lake shaped like fish with a couple of spots on the western shore that fit some tents, right beside the route. For some reason it always rains when I'm there and this place is super dreary when it does. Then again it's just about the most beautiful spot I know when the sun is out, and now that it's autumn this place will look amazing.

Day 4
Back to Oslo. It's mostly downhill from here and you'll be back in Oslo in time for a shower or two and a quick nap in a real bed before dinner 😊

Lovely video. Getting into hiking can seem daunting - especially if you start by watching ultralight thru hikers on youtube! Going on a DNT course was a great idea. Happy hiking :)

I found your video by a pleasant accident.  I’m planning to just on a plane to Oslo for a quick wild camp.  That shop looked amazing. I enjoyed your video. You have a very beautiful home too.  All the best Stephan from Scotland
