Sunrise on Zempoaltépetl Hill in the Magical Town of Huauchinango, Puebla

This is my fifth video in the Huauchinango, Puebla series.

I continue my adventure through the Magical Town of Huauchinango. So far, we've experienced the coffee route, enjoying its flavor amidst rainy landscapes. Then I explored La Morena Waterfalls Park and we finished at the Necaxa Dam. From there, we went to the community of Patoltecoya for birdwatching. Little by little, I'm realizing that this magical town combines a lot of culture and adventure, so in this video, I want you to join me for one of my favorite activities: mountain hiking. Here, along with my guides, we'll hike from dawn to the highest point in the municipality to witness one of the most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen in the state of Puebla. A luxury to enjoy with a cup of coffee, this is my ascent of Cerro Zempoaltépetl.

After sleeping on the outskirts of town, almost facing the La Morena waterfalls, I'm heading to the town center for my second night. Tomorrow I'll be climbing Zempoaltépetl, and my guides will pick me up very early. That's why I came to the center, and today is a perfect day, simply because it's my favorite weather: not too hot, and with that wonderful smell of damp earth after a light rain.

Tonight I'll be sleeping at the Hotel Restaurante Casa Real, just a few meters from Huauchinango's main square. It has everything I need to rest, and from my window, I could even see the enormous dome of the Chapel of Our Lady of the Assumption, one of the largest on the continent.

This hotel also has a restaurant where you can admire a large mural depicting the most representative elements of Huauchinango's history and culture, as well as the municipality's main tourist attractions, which, as you can see, I'm trying to visit all of.

Today I need to rest and try to go to bed early so I can get up around 3:00 AM.

Around 4:00 AM, we arrived at the spot where the guides leave the truck. We turn on our headlamps, and my guide, Alex, gives me the initial instructions. This is a moderately easy climb, so it's ideal for those just starting out in mountaineering.

But it does require a bit of fitness. We take many breaks to take photos, share stories or anecdotes, or simply rest. It's great because it allows you to listen to the sounds of nature at night, especially insects.

In the distance, we could see what might have been a satellite, because it certainly wasn't a plane. With this slight mystery, we continued walking, since our goal is to reach the summit before dawn, and we hope it won't take more than a few hours.

Even though it's December, the weather is very pleasant. However, never let your guard down, as the mountains create microclimates and the temperature can change in a matter of seconds. Also, you might feel hot at first because you're climbing and getting a lot of exercise, but once you reach the summit, the weather is colder and windier, so you'll need to wear more layers to stay warm.
