Today we explored the remains of old Chinsegut Hill. We walked through the trails on the large property, and found remains from the early years of Chinsegut Hill.

As well as exploring abandoned historic locations, we also investigate haunted and paranormal places! The concrete base with the hole in the center was used as the base for the cane mill.
A horse or mule would have 'powered' the mill. Sugar cane stalks would be fed into the rollers of the mill squeezing out the cane juice which would be boiled into syrup or processed into sugar.

The large structure in the video is a circa 1930s lodge-type building that has not seen use since the 70s or 80s, however is still structurally sound. This building, the smaller collapsed structure, and the footings/foundations of the cane mill, as well as the lakeshore itself are all on State of Florida owned lands and closed to the general public at this time. The Tampa Bay History Center is is talks to eventually aid in the preservation of the lakeshore and surrounding land including the structures but as of now, only the marked trails within the bounds of the Chinsegut Hill property are open to visitors, and only during open hours of operation. The property itself has much history and beauty to offer so still worth a visit. Just be cautioned that not all areas seen in the video are legally accessible to the general public.

Very cool video.. my grandmother's family bought and ran the "Hill" right after the Civil War... it was called Tiger Tail Hill back then... or some called it Snow or Hedick Hill after my ancestors names.

Enjoyed your adventure. Thanks for sharing. The "fauna & flora" It looks like my parents backyard. (Except bamboo) 100% N. Florida. (Guess that's why I like city, parents home been on a dirt road for 45 years). Always nice to leave with mystery.

I shared this video with the Tampa Bay History Center (which holds tours at Chinsegut Hills) and this is what they said: ""They hiked all the way to Lake Lindsey and found the recreation center for the Civilian Conservation Corps." which explains the "CCC".

i love it out there very peaceful place haven't been lately because gas is to high to go there i live in lakeland fl can't wait to back lakeland is over crowded with people here.

Is this open to anyone walking it? How do you find and access. My ancestors had properties in the Brooksville area through the ARmed Occupation Act of 1842. The program gave 160 acres for settling.
