You don't need a padel court or even a ball to improve your game. In this lesson, Coach Gabo introduces padel shadowing – a simple training method you can use almost anywhere to improve your footwork, movement, preparation and recovery.

Just like boxers use shadow boxing to develop their movement and technique, padel players can practice realistic movement patterns without hitting a ball.

In this video, you'll learn how to move correctly when the ball is in front of you, beside you or behind you. We break down how to pivot, adjust to the ball, stay balanced, push off after your shot and recover efficiently for the next one.

You'll also learn why small adjustment steps are important when approaching the ball, while bigger recovery steps can help you return to position faster.

For your own shadowing sessions, Coach Gabo recommends around 12–15 repetitions per exercise, performed at a realistic game rhythm. The goal isn't simply to move as fast as possible – it's to understand each movement and develop the correct sequence of preparation, adjustment, contact and recovery.

Practice the movements. Understand the rhythm. Educate your body. Then bring it onto the court.
