Take a trip on the DART train to Howth, Malahide, Dun Laoghaire, Bray... you can even do tour trips to Wicklow 30 - 40 mins, Emerald Park and Newgrange all within an hr of the city..

When we visited a few years ago, we went to the National Botanic Garden and loved it. It was lovely and a great place to visit for gardeners especially.

Thank you for including Kilmainham Jail. My grandfather spent time there as part of the Easter Rising, and my cousins still live in nearby Inchicore.

Howth harbour is another place that I would suggest to get out of the city center. Only a train ride away and it's a beautiful place to walk around right on the coast.

Definitely true about the layers. Lived in Ireland my whole life and we ourselves can’t guess half the time if any particular day is t-shirt or coat weather 😂

Irish here, it you havent visited the Wicklow Gaol (jail) yet, i highly recommend it.

Ardgillan castle is also a great visit.

One thing I liked was the Dublin Literary Pub Crawl. It's cheap, funny, goes to a lot of non-touristy pubs.
DART, Luas, Bus Eireann and Iarnrod Eireann (Irish Rail) are worth learning about. Driving in Ireland off the few motorways can be hair-raising, unless you're up for the challenge, but there's things you can only see by car.
Jameson is OK, but I like Slane and Tullamore better.

I love your video, Wolter! Really up-beat and positive – as always – with your enthusiasm really shining through which in turn makes you want to go there. A bit different this time for me, though, as I’ve lived in Dublin pretty much all my life. Always fascinating to get an outsider’s views, and how “right” they are. You’ve absolutely nailed it with the advice: all excellent and worth following! I especially like your attitude to “touristy” stuff, getting it exactly right. There’s the fun stuff that you just have to go with and you’ll have a great time (Viking Splash tour) and the tourist trap stuff with overpriced, crowded, made-to-extract-your-dollar type stuff (Temple Bar) that’s really best avoided. Some great advice and observations - definitely don’t rent a car to explore Dublin, and yes, even the locals are completely baffled when it comes to exiting the airport by car. Kilmainham (where I happen to live) is pronounced Kill-main-ham, by the way, as in those 3 smaller words shoved together. Well done for trying, though – it’s more the people who put on fake accents and think it hilarious we have an issue with (why do they do that???). One thing you might add to any follow-up. It’s not all about pubs! There’s a great coffee culture here the last few years, with many small independent roasters. You have to hunt out a bit the independent cafés that serve it, but it’s well worth it. This is especially for the ones that serve food: really excellent, first class freshly-prepared food, which because it’s mostly lunchtime is significantly cheaper than similar standard food served in nighttime restaurants. Places like 3FE, Proper Order, Two Pups, Alma, Cake Café, Industry & Co etc. Thanks so much for the great video on my home town!

I went to Ireland (Dublin) in 2011.  Stayed at the Jury's Inn Christchurch.  Took the day tours with Paddy Tours.  Belfast, Giants Causeway etc.  Had a grand time.  Upon leaving ... train to Belfast, ferry to Scotland.

I was just there! If you want to get out of the city abit, I recommend doing the Howth walk. It was gorgeous!

Dublin absolutely can be fun for a day or two. Definitely went the car on your way out of Dublin. Also, Temple Bar might be touristy and chaotic but it’s a fun chaos.
