With around 159 quintillion settings, the Germans considered their Enigma machine unbreakable. But as early as the turn of the year 1932/33, Polish mathematicians were reading the radio messages of the German army. This documentary features: the inventor Arthur Scherbius, the traitor Hans-Thilo Schmidt, Marian Rejewski and the Polish Bomba, the secret meeting of Pyry, Alan Turing and Bletchley Park, the capture of U-110, the heroes of U-559, the Black May of 1943, U-505 – and the Enigma machine, which was found on the bottom of the Baltic Sea in 2020.

Wenn man die Chronologie genau verfolgt, erkennt man, dass am 09.05.1941 auf U110 eine Marine-Enigma mit kompletten Walzensatz und aktuellen Codebüchern erbeutet wurde. Mit dieser Ausrüstung, die sofort nach Bletchley Park gebracht wurde, war es ein Leichtes, die Bismarck am 26/27.05.2941 zu finden. Es war also völlig klar, wo das Catalina-Flugboot und die Swordfish-Torpedobomber suchen und angreifen mussten. Ein Kriegsdetail, das die Briten nie eingestanden haben. Der Flugboot Einsatz war die perfekte Tarnung und die Legende war zu schön, um sie später platzen zu lassen.
Es wurde auch nicht erwähnt, dass die Polen in Polen 3 Enigma von/bei der Deutschen Reichsbahn gestohlen haben. Diese Enigmas waren zwar einfacher aufgebaut, brachten aber Erkenntnisse über die Konstruktion und Verdrahtung, was zB. für das zwischengeschaltete Steckbrett entscheidend war.
