Have watched and downloaded several videos(Not AI) on doing this correctly.
I bought a 2007 Ranger and realized after purchase that the seller lied about basically all maintenance. I am changing/flushing all fluids. Changing all filters. Cleaning and testing all sensors beginning at the MAF; moving my way down to the Oxygen sensors. The oil was low and black and smelly. Although the engine runs well and does not blow any smoke, I know the last owner did next to nothing to maintain it. Rear end was low. Missing sway bar, breaks are a total loss.
On this vehicle, I am going to assume everything needs cleaning or replacing. There are no records of maintenance, the seller is a liar, and the evidence says I can not know the condition of any fluid or filter.
Oil and filter changed with good quality full synthetic. Air and gas filters replaced with new and superior ones. MAF sensor cleaned. Full gas system cleaner in the tank. Spark plug replacement is next, soon as I get a spark plug socket. Then throttle body cleaning soon as I get a gasket; transmission, differential, power steering, coolant, and break fluid will all be gently flushed, and replaced with quality products like AMSOIL makes, for example.
When I clean the sensors or make changes to the air or fuel flow, I remove the negative off the battery before hand, so the relearning occurs.
The truck has already increased pep and starts just a tiny bit faster; though it started well already. With an unknown maintenance history though, and owned by a liar, I have to do everything, assume nothing was done correctly or using decent parts and fluids.
The only fluid that was full and looked clean is the transmission fluid; which actually is a bit concerning :-(
