Wow Karen, what a survivor you are. I never knew your life took this downturn. Your story is incredible. Listening to you reminded me of myself. I too am short, only 5ft. All my life it's been a struggle to get clothes to fit. When I was a teenager my friend taught me to dressmake. I would buy the Vogue magazine for fashion/fabric inspiration and then make the equivalent in my own choice of textile. I too wanted to go to college but there were no such courses in Scotland and I got pushed into a job. I too big 65 this year and have started to think about my first passion, fashion again and thinking about being creative again and using my hands and just enjoy being creative. I've still got all my Vogue clippings and patterns. You are an inspiration, this was a great interview and I am feeling positive. I wish you all the best in your future. Its always interesting listening to the origin stories of a business and so often it seems they start of in this serendipitous way when someone has a passion or interest that ends up becoming a business almost by accident.I love these kind of stories when it seems it wasn't making money that was the main driving force but obviously understanding business and finance is all part of making it viable.
I remember her first shop which was in Maidstone I believe and I can still remember the purple shirt I bought there in the 80's.
