I'm adding a value structure to a previously etched plate (line etching) using traditional rosin aquatint. The separate values are controlled with incremental applications of stop out and timed immersions in the etching tank.

Great tutorial, Neal; best one I have encountered to date. Quick question: what stop-out are you using (it is pinkish-clear in color). I am accustomed to using dark hard ground, but it masks details underneath after it is applied. Thanks.

Hi Neal, doesn’t the etching of the aquatint, widen and deepen the original etched lines, at least those parts of the line not covered by rosin?

9:16 I don't recommend a hair dryer. If it gets too hot, it melts the rosin dust and affects the outcome.
