Somewhere beyond the city limits lies the Zone. Nobody knows what it is or where it came from. Inside the Zone, somewhere, there is a Room. They say it grants your deepest wish.
«Stalker» is the masterpiece of Soviet director Andrei Tarkovsky, loosely based on the 1972 novel «Roadside Picnic» by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. A mysterious guide known only as the Stalker (Alexander Kaidanovsky) leads two clients — a cynical Writer (Anatoly Solonitsyn) and a rational Professor (Nikolai Grinko) — through a heavily guarded, ever-shifting wasteland called the Zone. Their destination: a Room said to fulfill one's innermost desires. But as they get closer, the real question is no longer whether the Room exists — it's whether any of them truly want what they think they want.
One of the greatest movies ever made. Ranked #43 by critics and #14 by directors in the Sight & Sound Greatest Films poll of 2022 (BFI). Cannes Film Festival 1980 — Ecumenical Jury Prize. Tarkovsky himself said: «I spent my whole life preparing for Stalker and filmed it for two years.»
Music by Eduard Artemyev. Cinematography by Alexander Knyazhinsky. 4K restoration by Mosfilm's Telekino and Computer Graphics division.
