Hi Ben glad you got it running eventually. However,if you'd replied to my email offering help,i could have saved you a lot of time,pain and trouble. On my k jet shelf in my workshop, i have the correct fuel pump complete with check valve and noise suppressor  NOS. A box of asst k Jet banjos NOS. The correct fuel filter NOS. The base gasket for the metering head NOS. Injector seals NOS.  Ive even got a NOS fuel injection relay.

Future car prerequisite list: must be carb'ed, must be manual gearbox, must have been parked on solid dry surface where there is no grass.

Just had to comment on why I  subscribed immediately.  Working on these cis Bosch injection and 80's jetronic cars is on a level of difficulty that not many mechanics would dare to work on, much less YouTubers.  Great video.  Keep up the good work.

K-jet is simple and yet complicated at the same time

45:13 No truer words. I also own a motorcar equipped with the Bosch K-Jetronic. As I have worked on it over the last dozen years, I have definitely come to appreciate why I hardly ever see other European cars of this era on the road today. They're just gone. And there are fewer and fewer mechanics who know anything about the Bosch mechanical fuel injection systems. Unless you can afford to take your car to a specialist (and how many cars fitted with K-Jetronic would merit that kind of expense?), you're pretty much on your own.

Hi Ben another great video. Having worked on lots of cars with K-Jetronic systems back in the day. I would look at your Haynes manual find the chapter on setting the idle mixture. You will need a long 3mm Allen key, Adjust with the engine trying to idle, gently without applying downward pressure to the plunger. You maybe lucky to greatly improve things. Next job is to pull the injectors again, leave them attached like you did in the first vid and compare spray patterns on all injectors as the engine cranks, or just switch you fuel pump on. If necessary remove any poor injectors and soak overnight in carb cleaner or clean petrol. You can try blowing them out with you airline (we used to use a diesel injector tester with a pressure gauge and hand pump.) You will like the next bit, those style of injectors do respond well with a tap from a hammer to help unstick them , if required hit them on the machined hexagonal nut on the side of the injector just bellow the thread. Next-Fuel pump supply, some of the Bosch systems had a fuel pump relay that would only energise if the engine was  turning  over and the relay got a constant pulse from the crankshaft sensor, check your Haynes manual for info. They also had crash sensors/ switch so if the car was in an accident the fuel pump would have power removed. Finally I think you may have covered this on the first video but you need to remember that the power steering system is in fact a central hydraulic system that also helps the brakes function properly. Good luck with it all . There really is nothing like the sound of one of the VW/Audi five cylinder engines revving up, I did have a URQuattro in the early 90’s, how I wish I never sold that car.

The CPR (control pressure regulator) on the block with 2 fuel lines going to it and the fuel metering unit with plunger work together to determine pressure and flow to open the injectors. There is a cold start valve on the intake mani that adds extra fuel at startup as well. There is an adjustment hole in the airbox next to the fuel metering unit to fine tune the mixture which can be measured with a dwell meter on a dedicated port. Oh yeah there may be an O2 involved in the mix too once it arms up. You are getting there by feel but future you will likely need to verify fuel pressure cold and warm to get it all dialed in. Fellow Ford  bumpside and Kjet owner family here too! Love the bump tat!!

I agree with you. Older German cars from the 80s and 90s may have been well built and worked great in its day but they either didn't give enough thought to or didn't want them to still be running 30 or 40+ years later. As a classic car enthusiast this sickens me as some of the older German stuff is really cool but just a ball ache to work on and get going when left sat. I find that the Japanese built stuff in the 80s and 90s with the idea of just making it work and still probably work in 30 or 40 years time. If it doesn't work in that time then it is usually not that hard to get working.

As a fellow ginger, thank you for showing that our lives don't have to be a never-ending misery of underachievement, loneliness & disappointment. There is hope!

I've had a couple of vehicles with K Jetronic, a VW Corrado, DeLorean, and most recently a South African T25, which came from the factory with a 2.5 10V version of this very same engine.  K Jetronic can be a bugger to setup right.  So much depends on fuel pressure and the condition and setup of the metering head.  But,  if you fancy bringing it up to date why not convert it to EFI. I've just done that with mine,  using a kit from Invent Jetronic,  based in Ukraine.  Fantastic kit,  and really great support from the guys there.  It would make an excellent follow-up video.

Nothing on earth sounds like a German five pot at full chat. I had two VR5 Golfs, utterly reliable, smooth as silk, a joy to drive and a PROPER soundtrack! This is making me want another five banger in my life. Keep it up!

That car has so much going for it doesn't it, lovely solid original bodywork, and the engine when it runs sounds really sweet no knocking or anything.
It's a really significant rescue this one mate, these are the cars that are going to be extinct if not for people like your good self preventing that.
