Know, O Beloved!
If you look at God Almighty with the title of "known and familiar," He becomes unknown and unmentioned. Because this familiarity is a customary acquaintance, an imitative hearing. It is not an expression that will proclaim the truth. Moreover, the meaning that comes to mind with that title cannot simultaneously encompass and instill in the mind all the absolute attributes. It is only a kind of title for contemplating the Sacred Essence. But if God Almighty is looked at with the title of "unknown existence," then the rays of familiarity become more prominent. And with the absolute and all-encompassing attributes manifested in the universe, it is not difficult for this described being to emerge from that title. (Mesnevi-i Nuriye, Sixth Treatise: The Grain)
