in the first ten minutes we learn Dan doesn't know what a pause symbol is and Arin still only knows five words to Personal Jesus.

Was that... Dan staying up to date on current games? He knew the name "Sonic Frontiers" off the top of his head. Grandpa's never done that before!

I really want Brennan Lee Mulligan to take Arin on a one-shot so powerful and moving that it brings him to tears.

I got recommended this January 4th 2026.
I thought Danny was making the most brilliant new year's joke

Arin's Jaunty Sailor anecdote is essentially the entire character arc of Tom Bombadil.

@twinly92 3 years ago

Arin learning about Tom Bombadil was something I didn't know I needed to hear

@Dyundu 3 years ago (edited)

Dan explaining Tom Bombadil to Arin made my day.

@TheSkullivan12 3 years ago

Tom Bombadil is a genuinely hilarious character concept. He's a primordial eldritch being of unfathomable power who probably could have ended the entire conflict two books earlier if not for the fact that he truly, deeply, unwaveringly, wholeheartedly COULD NOT give less of a fuck.

Arin having Personal Jesus rexplained to him every few years never fails to get me laughin. Hootin n hollerin

@averyeml 3 years ago

Honest to god just from the Tom Bombadil and Arin trying not to lose it at Dan not knowing what a pause symbol is, this might be my favorite episode in a good while

@toddpickens 3 years ago

Thanks for playing our game! You two are hilarious.

Someone should tell Arin that D&D without combat is absolutely a thing. All it takes is for everyone in the table to want to play like that and go helping townsfolk, solving mysteries, solving puzzles, banging fabulous sailors under the moonlight.

@AV524 3 years ago

I can’t believe we almost had the same instance where Arin goes on for minutes about Personal Jesus.

@RamadaArtist 3 years ago

Dan not remembering what the pause symbol looks like, followed immediately by Arin not remembering the chorus to "Personal Jesus," is peak Game Grumps. With their powers combined you get the cultural knowledge of one whole person!

so it sounds like the actual issue is that Arin thinks D&D combat has to be just "I attack it," and doesn't know that you are still roleplaying during the combat

@chelseamleynek321 3 years ago (edited)

So Arin’s aversion to dungeons and dragons is he doesn’t wanna wait his turn in combat 😂

@jvelex 3 years ago

Tom Bombadil is a beautiful character who demonstrates that a merry guy in the woods just living his best life can defeat the temptation of evil by just vibing and doing whatever. Quintessential.

@TheFinalFarewell 3 years ago

Okay, Dan and Arin, seemingly obliviously, coming full circle and YEARS later doing the Depeche Mode Personal Jesus bit AGAIN is one of the funniest things to me 😂

@firestorm1088 3 years ago

Any time Arin says “in my mind” you know we’re about to go on a journey.

@magustg1 3 years ago

Arin sounds like he'd really like Powered by the Apocalypse games or FATE. There's a whole genre of Narrative RPGs that are EXACTLY what Arin is saying he wants.
