Doug Walters Legend and also just another bloke. Met Doug in 2012/13 ? once. Somewhere in between many beers. Knew his brother-in-law since about '76 till his passing and he was another character in his own right. Aussie all the way ay. Culture my friends, Culture.
Just amazing how Doug coming in at number 6 could turn games around. A batting lineup trounced by the bowlers was all you would hear on these sombre radio broadcasts. Then in a matter of a couple of hours full blown excitement appears on the evening news as Doug gets up from the card table, puts down his beer, ashes his cigarette then walks onto the paddock to hit a ton in a session. Just amazing. Dashing Doug from Dungog - great hero for any youngster in the 1970's - honoured always.
A ICONIC Personality, My favourite cricketer next to Sir Dònald Bradman , vry fortunate to watch him play in Sri Lanka in 1969, great memoirs long life with good health😊
Tragedy ! ?? Doug Walters OAM, MBE Known and admired as a a great cricketer, great character and good person right around Australia and beyond. With two years of National Service in the Army interrupting his career in its blossoming years. Has the narrator got anything to compare to that ? Doug's as happy as can be - nothing abnormally tragic in his life. Continues to enjoy his life to the maximum.
