It's basically portraiture and fundamental principles of classic painting and drawing applied to minis

I started wargaming 30 or so years ago, and seeing how much better miniature painting has become is insane.
Thanks to everyone who has truly made this a form of art.

Best video you guys released on this channel thus far. I appreciate the recap at the end and practical theory that's not difficult to follow

As a 3d artist and painter, its so cool seeing the evolution this hobby has gone through the past couple decades.
Everyone that does this and is levelling up, learning lighting, colour theory, values, etc. You're not just a hobby painter I consider you all artists, props to you all.

So simple is perfect

I think these higher level tutorials are amazing and really useful to anyone painting to a display or competition level. Keep it up!

So glad to see that fine arts and miniatures Painting are finally merging together, I'm pretty sure grandpa's painting Napoleonic busts learned more from it from reels about making blood angels armors. Now the best of the two worlds is meeting and the results are increasingly better in a very little time window

this is the best tutorial I've seen from you guys yet, and it's not even close. This feels like exactly what I wanted from here. Tutorials on advanced techniques, taught with a high quality paint job, and to treat me as though I'm already this skilled, I just don't know the technique yet. Don't fuss about with the basic or intermediate parts of this like paint consistency or what direction to push the paint. There's plenty of other channels that people can go to for that. I need to understand the the color theory, why it's that way, and see the process of blocking and blending used to get to the result.

Every time you look at camera and call out Steve I get so freaked out

Well, this is maybe the most interesting video, or let's say, the video with the most value in terms of learning, you ever released. Cast shadow is something really tricky. This king of thing you tell yourself : I want to try but... where do I start ! Here, you just shown everybody : guys, start here ! And now, we just have to practice. Thank you for this, I just finished to watch the video and the only thing I want is to take a bust et work on cast shadow right now !

Amazing work Lukas, I hope you earned lots of cookies! I like that your painting other sculpts besides warhammer, I appreciate the work you did here.

Love it.  Finding the right paint values for the skin transitions when going over the black and white, still looks pretty intimidating though.

I have a request/suggestion for a little tutorial for the squidly bits channel. Painting capes 😁 maybe with different textures and tecniques would be very cool

Really nice video Lukas! I think you´ve explained the cast shadows very well :)

Really nice tutorial, more of this please. Maybe rimlights and the Fresnel Effect next?

Thank you for the content it help a lot.

I was doing this anyway lol
You go into a much more involved way to do it than I use on miniatures but this is it.
I thought I was just doing a paint up ...maybe I come form a different painting background than most
thanks for sharing a great how to

Absolutely love what you made with the bust, is looking amazing 😍😍😍

Excellent video! Like the use of graphic diagrams / illustrations

amazing stuff!
