It’s worth noting at this point in time Churchill was under a lot of pressure. In a number of weeks he’d gone from effectively being a political outcast to being put in charge of the admiralty, where he’d been trying to blockade the Baltic sea and help defend Norway, as well as dealing with politicians in both Britain and France who wanted to do as little as possible, and now is waking up to find out that Holland and Belgium are under attack and the British government is about to collapse and he might be the person they ask to hold it all together and fight a world war.

Churchill was a notoriously bad-tempered boss, but his staff still adored him. Apparently, when Chamberlain left Downing Street and Churchill came in it was like a thunderbolt of optimism and energy - they started to believe that maybe it was just possible to win the war.

Churchill going sleep.
Churchill wake up.
Europe is in war and Churchill is Prime Minister.
What a starting day. XD

He had her running out of the room, crying on her first day at work.........only to be verbally ripped a new one by his wife moments later for it! I love this movie, and Oldman did an excellent job of portraying Churchill and his eccentricities!

Fun fact: Winston Churchill smoked 11 cigars, and had 12 alcoholic drinks a day.

Churchill becoming PM again was in Oct 51 not May 40.

So Gary Oldman is one of a few actors to have played a president of the United States and a prime minister of the UK - and on top of that, a couple of villains, one who kills a president and another who got killed by a president.

Churchill is not PM at the time in the film that this scene occurs and he doesnt become PM 'again' in the film at all, he becomes PM for the first time.  Apart from that, great.

Gary Oldman is the greatest actor of all time

Now that's a breakfast.

Churchill woke up and chose sparta. lol

The irony is that according to the film "Der Untergang" which portrays Hitler behind the scenes as an actual human character rather than the familiar cardboard cut-out ranting dictator in public (which is why the film was so controversial), in the opening scene in which Hitler chooses his new secretary -- Gertraud "Traudl" Junge -- from several candidates presented to him by the SS, he is very gracious and warm to Traudl even when she makes typing mistakes and he realizes she is inexperienced.  He calmly tells her to start over without any of the scolding irrascibility of Churchill.  Yet, it is Churchill who saves civilization while Hitler came close to destroying it.  Hitler isn't portrayed as a raving loon in the film until it cuts/jumps three years later after this first scene, seeing him now that his world is crumbling around him in his bunker as the Soviet Red Army gets closer and the German military collapses under the weight of the Allied advances from both east and west.

That lighting from 1:08 was super cool. Dig it.

This was the FIRST TIME

a scene like this exists in "Der Untergang" as well. They showed Traudl Junges first interaction with Hitler.

…how can he be called on to be PM AGAIN when he hasn’t been PM at all at this point?

He hasnt even been 'called upon' to be PM  (for the first time) at this point in the film - the letter from Buckingham Palace arrives later in this scene, the invitation from the King to form a Government even later in the film.

Gary Oldman was born for this role. Just like he was for James Gordon; Norman Stansfield, Dracula, Zorg and others.

When I was in the Army I had a SSG Armstrong from Georgia that mumbled just like him when he talked impossible to get everything so we just tried our best nice guy I hope where ever he is hes doing alright

Nothing like as good as the former Churchill in the old movie on yt.
