Consumers are denouncing a charge of R$0.29 for plastic bags bearing the supermarket's logo. The controversy isn't the price itself, but rather paying for indirect advertising of the company. Tension marked the reporting team inside the wholesaler.

Charging for plastic bags is not illegal, provided the consumer is informed beforehand (Article 6, III, of the Consumer Protection Code).

However, charging for a bag displaying the company's logo may raise questions based on Article 39, V, of the CDC, which prohibits manifestly excessive advantage. After all, the consumer is paying to carry material that advertises the store itself, which constitutes a commercial benefit for the supplier.

Several Procons (consumer protection agencies) in Brazil have already stated that bags with advertising should not be charged for, as the supplier, not the consumer, benefits from the marketing.

❌To date, the supermarket's press office has not commented on the case.
