More about Gianmarco:
Gianmarco Soresi is a stand-up comedian, actor, and a little too much for some people. He’s told jokes on The Late Late Show with James Corden, Comedy Central, Netflix’s Bonding, Don’t Tell, The Real Housewives of New York for some reason, and he was a JFL New Face in 2022. He’s acted in Billy Crystal’s Here Today, Hustlers, The Last OG, and in his theater days shared the stage with some people who’ve gone on to become huge real estate agents. You can see him post the kind of crowdwork clips that are arguably destroying the artform of stand-up comedy everywhere @gianmarcosoresi and he obviously has a podcast called The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi.🎤

I am surprisingly conservative too (who loves @GianmarcoSoresi ‘s stand ups so much; yay irony; yay self-deprecation; also the theater kid in me can’t get enough of musical-related standup sets).
That said, LOVE that you mentioned the Jakarta Method!!! What a great book!!! The foreign-backed genocides (yes, plural) by the Indonesian Government is definitely something that easily >95% of Indonesians don’t know about. It was obviously never covered in any textbook/academic setting / media / etc.
It’s crazy how a public schooling system with a “standardized curriculum” can serve as very effective propaganda to control the general public’s opinion. It has essentially practically“erased” / “rewritten” historical events to suit the conservative Indonesian ruling government’s agenda.
Like … I definitely didn’t know about it for the first 20ish years of my life. And this is despite access to the internet, western media, etc.
I guess History is indeed written by the victors (or survivors)….. ( cue Hamilton’s “Who Lives Who Dies Who Tells Your Story”)
I was apathetic towards my own history as a teen. Only started reading up on it while studying at Princeton / UPenn for my undergrad/masters (read up on both the “official narrative” and “the actual events that they are trying to cover up”).
🤢 you can not play with dairy like that lol
