Great tool , bought mine around 15 years ago for less than 20£. The shop no longer has them. Struggled to get it on the Eurostar 10 years ago but stood my ground and carried it on eventually.

The can opener is heavy duty enough that it opens tins just fine as is.  And even after oiling or soaking, the opener remains very stiff. It can be worked a bit. I like the strong springs myself.

I love this clasp knife. I rarely need more. The grip is great in my hands, and to be honest I never use the nail nicks. I get the tin opener out by first opening the knife.

I sharpened the tip of the opener to make a tool for getting dirt and debris out of treads and the like. The marlin spike is perfect for ropework, and as a dull prod.

Wish I'd bought three or four when they were cheaper, as gifts. I paid about £22 from J. Adams in Sheffield. It has Nato markings. But a number of Sheffield firms make this from the same pattern.

Armys used to use leather in huge quantity for strapping, for blade strops, bags, belts etc. No end of uses on land for the spike. Not to mention horses and mules, with all kinds of leatherwork. AND hooves to clean--both tin opener and spike are  great hoof tools.

Thanks for the review. A very underrated knife. And legal most everywhere that forbids locking or long blades.

Cheers from Haifa

That can opener one mine is damn near impossible to open without the help from a second tool.

Hello. I have 2 of these but one with wood scales and one with yellow g10  scales. Both come from Brittany in France where they call them a captains knife or sailors knife because of the spike. As you say, very strong and ideal for edc. All the best. PS. I paid more. 😭

That’s pretty much the one I got in 1969 when I joined the junior leaders at deepcut

I'm certainly going to get one now

I've got one of those but i can't get it open its a real old model i can't get any of the tools out so I've got to soke it in oil or something because it's impossible to open any of the items thanks for sharing this information about this one with us I'm Daley EDC is a Swiss army knife 🇨🇭👍🏻

I would not use GT85,     That is white spirit,    Oil and ground up plastic,      Not something you want to handle and prepare food with,      Just a drop of olive oil is fine

I think that is a Chinese copy......

Sadly, it is a rather inferior product when compared to a proper one actually issued by the British army. The steel is inferior and won’t keep an edge for long. The army had a very precise set of instructions as to how and what it was made of, they were contracted to quite a range of companies but all had the stock no. on, the War Dept. arrow (later ones didn’t have the arrow as that was no longer put on military kit around 1980 or so) and “oil the joints”, along with the companies name or logo. Mine was issued in 1954 and was made by RBS of Sheffield company, it takes a very good edge and keeps it.😁

This is the last pattern that the British Army issued, and they were made by a number of Sheffield firms, so it’s as close as you can buy to a ‘genuine British Army knife’ without buying used. I had my brother’s for review alongside some German, RN and civilian variants. You can see them here: https://youtu.be/g6g5dT6j5I8
