The Entire Story of Goulburn — Australia's Most Notorious Supermax and the Men It Was Built to Hold

17 June 1970: Harvey and Jeannette Crewe were last seen at a stock sale at Bombay. The case wasn't just an inquiry — it was a farmer against the Crown, where a buried cartridge held dry earth. Two trials. Two convictions. Life.

But on 11 November 1980, ten years to the day after the arrest, a Royal Commission found two detectives planted that cartridge. Arthur Allan Thomas had spent 3,323 days in custody. The cartridge case was already on the Whitford tip.

Today, only a photograph of exhibit 350 survives. The killings remain unsolved. Nobody was charged. This is the story of how one object convicted a man twice — and what its loss says about who checks the evidence.
