In this episode of Lifespan Season 2, Dr. David Sinclair, A.O., Ph.D. – Professor of Genetics at Harvard Medical School and pioneer in longevity research – explores the science of calorie restriction and fasting, two of the most studied interventions for healthy aging.
Drawing on decades of research, Dr. Sinclair explains how eating less – and eating less often – affects the biology of aging, why our evolutionary past may predispose many of us to weight gain, and what the latest human and animal studies reveal about lifespan, metabolism, and disease risk.
Whether you're interested in longevity, metabolism, or intermittent fasting, this episode provides an evidence-based look at one of the most powerful strategies for supporting health and longevity.

My name is Maryam Shayesteh, and I live in Pensacola, Florida.
I have watched almost all of your videos, and I have listened to some of them many times.
For more than five years, I have been eating one meal a day. By “one meal,” I mean that I only eat during a 2- to 3-hour window each day. Every morning, I drink plain black coffee, and for the rest of the day, I drink water.
I do not consume anything sweet, and I do not eat carbohydrates. About 99% of the time, my food is only red meat, sometimes with walnuts. The only fruit I eat is blueberries, which I pick in large amounts from a farm and store in my freezer.
I fast for more than 22 hours every day, and from time to time, I also do longer fasts, usually between 3 to 7 days.
I am 47 years old, and I work out at the gym for more than an hour every day, including weight training.
People often tell me that I look more than 15 years younger than my actual age. I also have a very high level of energy.
I believe I may be a good real-life case for studying the lifestyle you are researching.
If there is any way I can help with your scientific research, I would be very happy to do so. I would love to make even a small contribution to the meaningful work you have started.
Your teachings have helped me a lot. They have helped me build strong logical reasons in my mind, which support me in staying consistent with this lifestyle.
