I hope everyone realises how hard-won some of this excellent advice is, especially the younger dudes. Being able to benefit from other's lifetime of experience is probably the best thing to be squeezed from this rapidly enshittifying platform. Always solid shit and reminds me of things I might have figured out before but have forgotten and so reverted to bad habits, heh.

They brought my deadlift from 545 to 565 in like a month without doing deadlifts at all!

Another thing about volume is that you can always add a set if you are stuck, and get unstuck because you added a set. If you did a set of 10 followed by a set of 8 the last four times you did an exercise why not add a set in this workout, and leave with a PR?
It's like JM Blakely said, if you believe in a platou you are going to have them. If there is a way to move forward it makes sense to take it.
Even if you are really strong there is something you can move forward by doing more. Like if you don't hit what you are supposed to hit on a deadlift, you could still add a set to the hamstring curls afterwards. Something moved forward.
I actually do this with behind the neck presses right now, and I plan on doing it with side laterals. If weight doesn't move forward, and reps per set doesn't move forward I can still beat my reps per workout by adding a set. So I do a rest pause, and do that. Next week I either beat the top sets, and that new rest pause set, or I hit another rest pause set. Eventually the top sets will move, and I won't have to hit the rest pause sets in that work out. Same thing when the weight moves up. I won't die from shoulder work, so why not?
One day I'll hit my last pr, and that day might be today, so I'm gonna get it.

Re NSAIDs, I completely agree. I'm an old fuck now but in my 20s and 30s I was an obsessed trad lead climber. I'm genetically gifted when it comes to strong pull movements. I was capabale of getting far stronger than my tendons (or at least, my muscles got stronger quicker, than my tendons). I was young and stupid and relied on NSAIDs as well as cortisone shots to climb and train thru my tendon pain. We called ibuprofen "vitamin I" and we popped them like candy. My tendons never really healed. They stayed injured for years. It wasn't until towards the end of my climbing career that I read an article about French climbers claiming NSAIDs weren't allowing their tendons to heal and that there was a movement to swear off of them. I tried that. The next time my tendons hurt, either thru climbing or training, I ignored the ibuprofen bottle and did deep massages, stretched and rested a bit. I was amazed how much better I felt and how much more quickly my tendons recovered. I was astounded and hated the fact it took me years to discover the evils of NSAID over use. Anyway, I'm now 63 year, still fighting my tendons, but I'm NSAID free and my tendons, while not exactly in pristine shape - i have to keep my form in mind in the gym -  have been managable for decades. NSAIDs certainly don't help you heal - they just cover up the injury.
