The New Japanese EV Car Could End the Entire EV Industry!
#Japan #Toyota #EV
Toyota has a car coming in the next two years and will not say which one it is. When the executive running the programme was asked directly, he answered that it needs to be a model that can leverage those qualities, and then said he would leave it up to your imagination. The qualities are a battery designed to hold ninety percent of its capacity for up to forty years, more than a thousand kilometres on a charge, and a cell that is smaller, lighter and safer than anything on the road. A normal lithium battery is designed to hold ninety percent for about ten years. That single difference does not improve an electric car. It rewrites the economics of owning one.
In this video, we trace what Toyota has actually built while the industry spent a decade calling it the company that fell asleep on electric cars. We explain what a solid state battery is in plain language, and why almost every complaint about electric cars traces back to one flammable liquid. We go through the business maths that turns the most expensive part of the car into the most permanent part. Then the supply chain, with dates and places, from the Idemitsu electrolyte plant now under construction in Chiba to the Sumitomo cathode agreement. Then the new six hundred horsepower petrol engine Toyota built at the same time, and why that is not a contradiction. And finally Akio Toyoda, the most mocked executive in the car business, and the prediction that got him called a dinosaur.
