Meles is talking as if Ethiopia started that war with the intent to take the port. He seemed too fearful. No wonder Ethiopia effectively lost on the Algers agreement. He was conducting himself as if Ethiopia was the aggressor.
There is always a price the aggressor pays in defeat. Meles's stance made it such that no such thing happened to the aggressor and infact the reverse happened to the defender, Ethiopia. Huge failure.
