Mine is a 2019, made in September 2018 - almost 8 years old now, in summer 2026.  57,000 miles around New England and the East Coast and rockin' hard, boys.  It's my daily driver as well as my off road car camping rig. Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire - I have (almost) never been unable to go where I wanted - got stuck in a mud pit once, but that was my own stupid fault, not the cars'.  This car is a dirt-road-through-the-mountains beast.  Keep it well-maintained and keep an eye on your brakes and you'll be fine.  Put some Hakkapeliitta's on it, and I don't even need a snow plow - went through a foot of snow more than once.  This car don't play, man. If you're looking for a tool and not an accessory, this is what you want. I'm kitting it out now for the Dempster Highway drive to Tuktoyaktuk in Spring '27, and I have no doubt the car can do it. I'll let you know how that turns out next summer.

I'm glad you balanced out with the good points of this car. Mine is a 2015. A lot of people who complain about the Outback must realize one thing. It is NOT a heavy duty off-road truck like vehicle. Its really a mediocre family wagon with excellent build quality, gas mileage and all wheel drive system. It's not a luxury car either. Its a versatile, solid, practical, functional and reliable wagon. Buy it with that in mind and you'll never be disappointed with it.

2015 Subaru owner - 190K Miles. 11 years, many road trip, off the tarmac, national parks and no reliability issues.

2012 Outback 2.5i Limited with navigation and backup camera, owner - 165K miles. Bought in 2020, with 87K miles! Still great, not a lot of reliability issues; some brake work; had to replace a backup camera and some struts for the trunk. Will need to do a CVT Flush at some point, but other than that, it is a great car for being more than a decade old

I bought a  2025 Outback XT , my second outback. The XT is absolutely loaded with an added lift kit, huge off road tires, turbo added as well. I go off road alot rockhounding and camping in Oregon,  Idaho,  Utah and Arizona and my old one had a ton of miles and wasn't lifted. I've had 2 Toyota FJ Cruisers and a Rave 4 but the Subaru Outback is hands down the most versatile vehicle for me. I did add a Thule box on top but that's it. Im getting ready for another Utah rockhounding trip soon.

Sold my 1999 30th Anniversary Outback Limited back in January this year. After 27 years the steering rack was going out and I just couldn't justify the cost to repair. Aside from that, the car was basically 90%, so I just couldn't stand the idea of it going to a scrapyard. Through a neighbor I was able to sell it for a nominal price to a guy who had the skills and the home shop to do the work on the steering rack (and the other stuff a 27 year old car needs) so he could give it to his mom. I remember when he came to pick it up from me he liked it so much, he joked that his mom might not wind up getting it. I was so glad the old girl had a second life with someone who would appreciate her. I may be in the market for a car again next year, and here I am looking at an Outback again. Life's funny.

They're ridiculously capable cars. I took mine on logging roads in the Coast Range that I seriously probably shouldn't have been on, and she got me up and back safe. Also, they absolutely destroy snow. I went through 6-8 inches of snow in Portland's west hills (steep, if you don't know) during a bad blizzard twenty years ago while running Yokohama Geolander M/S on her. Didn't even spin out once. Amazing vehicles. Like Chase says, they are cars, not trucks or jeeps, but they are the single most capable car on the market. The right tires matter hugely on them, so don't skimp there- top quality M/S or AT only.

Despite my poor career choices and other risky activities, I have become a geezer. I recently ordered my second Outback and my 7th Subaru, and I have to say that they are the best car one can have when one has white hair. The safety systems keep me from backing into things, running into things, in my lane, and make up for my lapses in attention by alerting me that I am looking the wrong way. I haven't even put a dent in the last three I have owned. These things are practical, trouble free, and supported by excellent dealerships in many places.

Refreshing to see a vehicle that doesn't have an all-black interior. I wish more manufacturers would do the same.

We Love my wife’s 19 Outback. It has only 38K miles.
Yeah the 175 horsepower is a bit GUTLESS, but it gets her through the 5-7 feet of snow we get every winter.
It LOVES to run between 80 and 90mph on the freeway.
It’s extremely comfortable and hugs the corners in the “S” curves coming up our mountain to get home.
When it wears out, we’ll replace it with another Outback.

The later turbo versions ( XT) take the Outbacks to another level of performance. Just remember to do the fluid maintenance schedule ( change the CVT fluid at 50K)  and you get really good performance and reliability. However, it is NOT a Toyota Landcruiser or Isuzu  MUX or Nissan Patrol.

my family has had 6 outbacks and i inherited our 2013. Awesome cars and capable.

I own a 2015 Outback Limited 2.5. It replaced a VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI diesel 6-speed MT w/ 100K and a service for blown hoses over $2K. That was it. I wanted a non-drama car. The Subaru oil changes are under $40 at my dealer. It's the best car to have in weather. We get a ton of rain in Florida summers. I love it. Bought a lockable Thule Frontier cargo box 7.5 ft. x 2 ft. on FB Marketplace for $75 this week. Don't have anything to put in it right now. We're 2200 miles from CO/UT ski resorts. But, good to have! Also, the MPG you mentioned and a pretty large gas tank, my Outback has a range of over 420 miles on a full tank.(My Jetta TDI had close to 500 miles.) I like that you're not stopping every 200 miles on a road trip like i have to do on my 1999 4Runner.

I just bought a same color Wilderness... love it.  what a great platform and drive system.   Funny how some of my friends give me a hard time and call it a "Lesburu" but I don't care, it gets way more drive time than my Porsche 911.
